About this event

We’ve got a great schedule of programs and events in the works this year, starting with a free Charter Day celebration on Sunday, March 8. We’ll mark Pennsylvania’s birthday with a program on “Anthracite Labor History” exploring labor organizing and activism in our region’s past. The program will be moderated by Dr. Robert Wolensky of King’s College and will include presentations by:

  • Lucia Daily (independent scholar), “Msgr. John J. Curran: The Labor Priest of Anthracite

  • Dr. Thomas Mackaman (King’s College), “The Industrial Workers of the World in Anthracite, 1907-1916”

  • Robert Schmidt (independent scholar), “Radical Means, Conservative Ends: Understanding Dynamite Bombings in the Anthracite Region”

  • Dr. Robert Wolensky (King’s College), “Labor Rebellion during the 1930s: The United Anthracite Miners of Pennsylvania.”
