A Metro DC CLUW Women’s Labor Summit
As part of Women’s History Month and the 50th anniversary of the Metro DC Chapter of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), this day-long summit centers labor history, cultural expression, and organizing as inseparable forces for change.
The summit opens with labor songs performed by the DC Labor Chorus, grounding the day in the musical traditions that have sustained working women across generations. Throughout the program, participants will experience and create labor culture through a movement songwriting workshop, a collaborative art build for a 50th-anniversary CLUW banner, and live performances by women labor singers and spoken-word artists.
In addition to panels and discussions on organizing, social justice, and community change, the summit will host a dedicated space to collect oral histories of women in the local labor movement, contributing to an ongoing CLUW historical project that preserves the voices and experiences too often left undocumented.
This gathering is both a celebration and a living archive—honoring 50 years of CLUW leadership while actively creating the songs, stories, and art that will carry working women’s struggles forward.
