Scandalize My Name: Stories from the Blacklist exposes one of the most devastating attacks on workers’ rights in U.S. history—the McCarthy-era Hollywood blacklist, when artists, writers, and organizers were systematically denied employment because of their political beliefs. This was not simply censorship; it was economic punishment, stripping people of their livelihoods as a tool of repression.
Presented by the Ida B. Wells Media Defense Network, this urgent online screening tells the story of those who were targeted—and those who resisted—refusing to bow to intimidation and state-backed employer retaliation.
The screening will be followed by a live, unfiltered conversation with historian Dr. Gerald Horne and filmmaker/educator Pamela Sporn, drawing direct lines from the blacklist to today’s renewed attacks on dissent, labor, and free expression. Together they will examine the past, confront the present, and ask the essential question: What is to be done?
