In collaboration with the Claudia Jones School of Political Education, Bol is organizing a talk with author and organizer Tim Wheeler where he will discuss his book No Power Greater: The Life and Times of George Meyers. He will focus on the US labor movement in the 20th century and the role of George A. Meyers, a labor organizer from Maryland, along with many others.
Meyers organized 12,000 textile workers in Cumberland, Maryland. He was elected President of the Maryland-D.C., C.I.O. He was framed on trumped up charges of conspiring to overthrow the US government by “force and violence.” He spent nearly four years in prison. Freed, he dedicated his life to building the labor movement. Here is his story, No Power Greater: The Life & Times of George Meyers. With a Foreword by Fred Mason, retired President of the Maryland AFL-CIO.
The book also highlights the contributions of other labor leaders and underscores the rich history of the labor movement in Maryland. This is the history that the billionaire class doesn’t want you to know!
Tim Wheeler is a national political correspondent for the People's World and member of its editorial collective. He has been a reporter and editor for the working-class press for over 43 years.
Books will be available for purchase. Tim Wheeler will be signing the books after the talk.
