White-Hot to Whitewall: Steel Archives Reimagined
Professor Emily Baker has spent years immersed in industrial archives, from the abandoned remains of AL Tech in New York to her recent research at Georgia State University’s Southern Labor Archive. In this talk, she will share how she reimagines historical photographs by layering traditional neon over images of white-hot steel. A shifting gradient of color evokes both the cooling decline of U.S. steel in the 1970s and simulates the intensity of industry while in a whitewall gallery.
