UNI Americas is encouraging trade unions across the region to sign up to new campaign from Brazilian affiliate, the Film and Audiovisual Industry Workers’ Union (SINDCINE), designed to improve safety and prevent accidents in the audiovisual industry.
The union’s “Manifesto for Life, Safety and Dignity on Film Sets” was set up in response to the death of audiovisual worker Luiz Fernando Martins, who died on 14 June while preparing a film set. Through the manifesto, SINDCINE is calling on workers, trade unions, companies, producers, public institutions, and the entire audiovisual industry to make a firm commitment to protecting lives, respecting workers’ rights, and building safe workplaces.
