A Forgotten Working Class Activist Takes The Stage In Brighton, England

Lottie Walker will bring her one woman show about union leader Sara Wesker, who fought for the rights of East London workers and left a significant mark on UK history, to the Lantern Theatre in Brighton on February 28 and March 1. Written by J.J. Leppink, it's an account of a forgotten working-class activist put back into the spotlight.

Walker said, "Sara Wesker was one of East London's 'singing strikers' of 1928. [She] led the strikes that improved working conditions for thousands of women garment workers… But nobody's heard of her. So, we're putting that right by telling her story using protest songs (some as sung by Sara on the picket line) and the self-deprecating humour we Eastenders are so good at."
