Theater Alliance’s Fire Work Sparks Labor Dialogue

Chris Garlock | Published on 9/8/2025
Labor Night at the Theater Alliance’s new play Fire Work on September 6 sparked big questions about our relationship to work and capitalism—and the nature and limits of reform and revolution. The roundtable discussion featured Shanara Gabrielle, Producing Artistic Director of Theater Alliance; Alexis Harper, Communications Director at Georgetown’s Kalmanovitz Initiative and Ph.D. in African-American literature; and Jim McNeil, playwright and longtime union communicator. “Brilliant,” said one panelist; another noted that “the play knocks you off balance and forces you to see labor through a fresh lens.”
