The winners of this year’s Anne Feeney Hellraiser Scholarship have been
announced. The $1,000 awards honor artists who carry forward Anne’s legacy of using music to “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.”
From 70 inspiring applications, three recipients were selected:
- Crys Matthews, whose upcoming album Reclamation seeks to amplify unheard voices and spread hope and justice. She’ll use the award to produce vinyl copies of the record. crysmatthews.com
- Taina Asili’s Fever Pitch Pilgrimage, a 150-mile walk from Albany to NYC this September combining music, movement, and storytelling for climate justice. tainaasili.com/feverpitchpilgrimage
- Creekbed Carter Hogan, a trans nonbinary folk musician and writer, will complete GODSEYE, an album connecting medieval peasant uprisings, 20th-century labor struggles, and today’s resistance. creekbedcarter.com
“We were blown away by the creativity and talent,” says Amy Sue Berlin. Past recipients include Neffy (NPR Tiny Desk winner) and labor rapper Mickey O’Brien.
