Jesus Salas' book Obreros Unidos: The Roots and Legacy of the Farmworkers Movement has won two awards, a Gold Winner in the Multicultural category of the Independent Book Publishers Association annual book awards, as well as the 2024 Hamlin Garland Prize in Popular History awarded by the Midwestern History Association. The announcement praises the book's "sheer engagement of scale," nothing that the "narrative shares the interconnectedness... beyond [Wisconsin] to the Great Lakes Region, the Midwest, and the transnational movement from Mexico."
