LABOR SONG OF THE WEEK: The Man in Black

Chris Garlock | Published on 10/6/2024

"I wear the black for the poor and
the beaten down
livin' in the hopeless, hungry

I wear it for the prisoner who has
long paid for his crime,
but is there because he's a victim
of the times"

These words are inscribed on the pedestal for the sculpture of Johnny Cash given by the state of Arkansas to the National Statuary Hall on September 24, the first statue in the collection to honor a musician. Read more here.
