“Finding the Money,” which tackles the seemingly arcane subject of Modern Money Theory or “MMT”, is the sleeper hit of this year’s DC Labor FilmFest, attracting nearly 200 attendees to last night’s screening at the AFI Silver. The rapt audience stayed for a 45-minute discussion about flipping our understanding of the national debt — and the nature of money — upside down with filmmaker Maren Poitras, former chief economist to the Senate Budget Committee Stephanie Kelton, Rev. Delman Coates, Senior Pastor, Mt. Ennon Baptist Church, ably moderated by Sara Nelson, International President of AFA-CWA. “Rugged individualism is going to lead us on a path to ruin,” said Nelson. “Collective action, collective care for one another is actually what's going to give us our freedom.” Click here for more on “Finding the Money” and here for more on the DC Labor FilmFest schedule.
